A person may be admitted as a Student member if he/she has interest in pursuing a professional career in actuarial science. A student member may attend meetings of the Society or join in discussions. A student member cannot vote on matters of the Society, cannot sign statements that involve the making of actuarial opinion or certification and are not authorized to append NAS initials to their names.
A person may be admitted as Analyst member if he/she has atleast 4 examination credits within the professional actuarial course programme of an approved/recognized international actuarial professional body. A person who has obtained the CAA global certificate may also be admitted as an analyst of the society. An analyst member may attend meetings of the NAS or join in discussions and vote on matters of the Society. An analyst member cannot sign statements that involve the making of actuarial opinion or certification and are not authorized to append NAS initials to their names. However, analysts may append ‘CAAN‘ to their names.
A person may be admitted as an Associate of the Society if the person has been awarded associate status by a recognized international actuarial professional body. An associate member may attend meetings of the NAS, join in discussions, vote on matters of the Society and participate on committees. An associate member may also hold council positions other than President and Secretary/Treasurer. An associate member is authorized to append ‘ANAS’ initials to their names.
A person may be admitted as a Fellow of the Society if the person has been awarded fellow status by a recognized international actuarial professional body. A fellow member may attend meetings of the NAS, join in discussions, vote on matters of the Society, participate on committees and hold any council position. A fellow member can sign statements that involve the making of actuarial opinion or certification, and in addition are entitled to hold actuarial principal office positions. A fellow member is authorized to append ‘FNAS’ initials to their names.
A person may be admitted as an honorary member if based on a simple majority voting by the council, he or she has contributed immensely to the growth of actuarial profession in Nigeria but does not qualify for an associate or fellowship member class. An honorary member may attend meetings of the NAS, join in discussions and participate on committees but may not vote in council elections. A honorary member is authorized to append ‘HNAS’ initials to their names but is not authorized to sign statements that involve the making of actuarial opinion or certification, and also not authorized to hold actuarial principal office positions.
